Diabetes is a metabolic condition in which the body cannot maintain the normal blood glucose level. The rise in blood glucose level over prolonged period is called as Diabetes which is also causative factor & associated with other Non communicable diseases such as Cardio vascular diseases, Renal diseases and many others. the main symptoms of rise in blood sugar level include frequent urination, increased thirst, increased appetite and hyper glycemia. It is one of the major concern as there is no absolute cure for the diabetes. According to NDSS, about 1.7 million Australians have diabetes (Type1 and Type 2). Type1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorders in which patients majorly rely on Artificial insulin for life long whereas Type2 diabetes is associated with life style disorders and also have genetic factor associated with.

In Ayurveda, Diabetes can be correlated with one of the type of Premeha disease called as Madhumeha. The Ayurvedic literature have described frequent and increased volume of urine (different in appearance) output as main symptom of Premeha diseases. They have also classified the Kapha increasing life style factors ( Sedentary habits, high consumptions of sugary products, milk, meat, recently cultivated rice and other food products which are heavy to digest), are associated with Premeha disease. Madumeha, type of Premeha Disease is associated with excessive urination mainly sweet urine and hence it can be related as Diabetes mellitus.

According to Ayurveda, Diabetes is majorly Kapha disease with prodromal symptoms such as mid to old age, odour in sweat and breath, body stiffness, wish to sit and lie comfortably, dry throat, tingling sensation and frequent urination. If these symptoms persist in an individual then the chances of diabetes in future are more.

Management of Diabetes: Though there is no absolute cure of Diabetes but it can be managed with Ayurvedic medicines effectively without any side effects.
